Does anyone besides me in the forum like to consume alcohol?

I'm a 45 year old father of 3, and I enjoy getting together with friends and consuming alcohol on the weekends. It seems like everyone out there will have 2 drinks once in a while, and never let go a bit more then that. Does anyone else out there feel the same way, or do I need to check myself in?

I adhere to the SCB very strictly except for alcohol. I drink red wine and/or vodka almost every night and it has not affected my weight loss. I am down 30+ pounds.

LOL! Most of us aren't going to fess up when we've gone on a bender on this forum. I'm sure more than a few folks have the occasional booze up, myself included =s

For the purposes of SCD, keep in mind that for every unit of alcohol you consume, your body switches from burning fat to burning booze for an hour. Those hours add up pretty quickly and before you know it, you've spent all your sleeping hours burning booze instead of burning fat.

Some folks have no problem consuming a few drinks every evening. For others, a glass of red wine a couple times a week stalled their progress. I'm in this camp.

Others are happy with slower progress in exchange for a drink or 2 (or 3) throughout the week. It's their perogative. This is about finding a balanced approach that you can stick to for the long term.

If you're wondering if you drink too much in general, well, that's not for us to judge you or comment on for the purposes of this forum IMHO.

I don't think I drink too much. I have been drinking the wine Tim suggests, and I am down 20 lbs. in 7 weeks. Very happy with the results. I just find it funny that no one on this diet cares for drinking like I do. Oh how times have changed. I don't consider going to a backyard party for 5 hours on a Saturday, and drinking 6 beers a bender.

It's nice to do, but that is the kind of thing that cheat day is for. The purpose of this lifestyle and diet is to produce results, not to be pleasurable. Red wine is ok, but I imagine college kids having the most trouble with drinking alcohol and SCD. Who knows if they are even here since they might not have the time and discipline for something like this, or give a shit in the first place!

I think I might need to check myself in too. It crossed my mind before that I must consume way more alcohol then the average user of this forum. My social life involves meeting friends (in the pub or at someone's house) and having drinks. The only change I made alcohol wise when I started the SCD was to cut out beer where I could. I now normally only drink beer when I'm in the pub. If I'm at home or at a friend's house having a few drinks, I will drink red wine instead of beer. This isn't a problem for me as I like red wine just as much as I like beer.

The social scene here in Ireland revolves around the pub but with a surname like Sheehan I'd say you know this already...???

I think I have had a few too many pints with my friends. For now, red wine during the week and ONLY beer on Saturdays(my cheat day). Cheers!

I like my beer so I have been experimenting with this beer.

So far so good. I do save it for weekends or have 1 or 2 during the week. Not really sure how they make a beer with only 2.5g of Carbs and although it tastes a bit water downed it satisfies my craving for beer.

I don't really crave beer. I'm happy with red wine during the week. I just find it funny that I can't find a guy who can drink more then a couple of drinks a week.

I'll fess up. I drink roughly 1 bottle of red wine a week, all of it being on Friday and Sunday; Friday is my celebratory 'made it through the week' day, and I'll drink about 1/2 the bottle; Sunday I've intermittent fasted all day and then I'll break the fast with a steak and the rest of the wine from Friday.

Saturday is my typical cheat day and I have had beer on every cheat day except maybe 2? since I started the diet in January. I don't put a cap on how much beer I drink, I just keep going until I feel like stopping, which is typically in the 2-4 region as I drink good (craft) beer its very filling.

This weekend my dad is throwing a memorial day party, I've already picked up 2 - 12 packs to take home to share, and we've already planned to do a beer tasting at a local brewery before the party starts.

The weekend after that I'll be going to the American Craft Beer Fest in Bahston. Over 100 breweries represented, over 500 beers to try. :D

We do. We follow Tim's guide when he speaks about having two glasses of red wine of a night. This is us, but we have our wine watered down. We don't however drink beer. Beer is all grains. (Which makes me sad, but VERY BLOATED now, which makes me SADDER.) And cider! OMG cider is sooooo sweet now. That makes me sadder, because I only just discovered beautiful pear cider a few months before we went onto the diet. Now, I just *can't* drink it.

But, we like our red wine. And so does Tim. :)

The thing that holds me back from drinking is

1) Really hard to find drinks that have no grain of some kind, or sugar of some kind.

2)Making your liver slow down to process that alcohol kind of defeats the purpose.

So for me, simply not worth it. I save it for cheat day, and even then, I usually can't be bothered.

Then you must not care for alcohol. Even Tim Ferriss has 2 glasses of wine daily.

I enjoy a beer now and again, but don't like red wine.

I'm a bourbon fan, I FRICKING LOVE It. Almost all my friends are drinkers so its hard in those situations where we are all together but I actually have not drank any alcohol since I started SCD. I know Tim says up to two glasses of wine are ok but I'm completely avoiding all of it mainly because I have so much weight to lose and also because one of the guidelines I strictly abide by is "don't drink calories" I know others who are completely succesful on SCD while drinking alcohol but I had to make this choice to help speed my process along. Its tough but doable, enough temptation in a city like Miami ha ha.

Last week I had 2 nights with social obligations, both at bars, where I felt compelled to drink. Tuesday night I had 2 pints of light beer, Thursday I had 3 gin and tonics at a concert. I definitely lost less during this week, but still lost around 2-3 lbs. Water alone is really the way to go if you want to see significant fat loss or stability. Barring cheat day, of course.

Yes, Yes I do love booze. The only person that can tell if it's a problem for you, is you (or those close to you if they say you have a problem, you might)

If you are drinking 6 beers over 5 hours that hardly seems like problem drinking to me(depending on your weight)- you might however be considered too intoxicated to drive in some states. If you are drinking 6 beers a night, you might at least want to take a step back and evaluate.

I'm assuming this is a slightly US centric forum, as all the people I know (good ol' brits like me) doing SCD use cheat day as all-you-can-drink day...

It doesn't seem to affect my progress, but lordy are the combined carb-and-ten-pints-hangovers bad - so bad sometimes it almost doesn't seem worth the bother. Almost.

Personally am pretty good during the week - usually only a glass of wine or two, but I do know a few people that change that wine for a bottle of beer or something without drastic side effects. Obviously something better to try out once you have a handle on how you react to the SCD and are capable of gauging how a change has affected your progress week-to-week!

Mmmm beer.
