Body Temperature?
Hi-I was wondering if someone has any thoughts on body temperature and what that indicates? Last night, I took my temperature and it was about 96.6 which seems pretty low. I have been doing slow carb dieting for several months. Though I have stalled on the weight loss (5'3, 123lbs, 18.9% body fat), I've had success converting fat to muscle. But since I've seen the weight loss stall, I have been sort of avoiding cheat days. I know the diet suggests that I reinstate them but my main question is if my lower body temperature is indicative of anything?
Thank you!

Hi @4hour49. "...my main question is if my lower body temperature is indicative of anything?" Body temps vary diurnally and by method of detection, so if you took your temp axially when you were still in bed in the a.m., it's a little low but within the normal range. If you took your temp orally mid day, a body temp of 96.6 makes you mildly hypothermic. Either way, low body temp indicates a slowed metabolism that could be the result of a viral infection (usually goes away on its own), an endocrine disorder (i.e. hypothyroidism or adrenal insufficiency, both easily treated) or diet. It is likely you've done this to yourself by omitting your cheat days that have as their main purpose maintaining your metabolic rate during weight loss. Cheat days are more effective than exercise at keeping you in fat burning mode, so bummer of a choice in a way.
But then at 5'3" 123 lbs, and 18.9% body fat you are of normal weight and body composition. If you are actively trying to lose weight, perhaps you should reconsider. Whether you decide to try to lose more or to maintain, consider adding cheat days again and keep monitoring your body temps, always using the same method, and preferably at the same time of day. Best of luck. E

Hi E- Thank you very much for your response. I think perhaps you are right that it is likely my metabolism has slowed so yesterday I implemented a crazy carb-filled cheat day. I'll see if it works!
