Great info! I just saw Ina Garten do a filet of beef for slicing thinly and it looked gorgeous. Same technique~
1.5 - 2 # filet of beef (tied).
Take beef out of fridge 20-30 min before. Heat oven to 500 degrees. Coat beef with room temperature butter + 1 T salt and 1 T freshly ground pepper. Roll beef in s & p to coat thorougly. She said that much is necessary for a good crust. Place meat on shallow baking sheet; no high sides, as that would steam it. Roast for 22 minutes exactly, for rare or to 120 degrees on a meat thermometer stuck in the end/center of meat.
Take out of oven and cover w foil. Meat continues to cook while resting. Let rest 15 min before slicing.
