I am so happy for you! I read your posts a lot, as I am in my 3rd week of SCD. I'm down 8.5 lbs already and excited to see more results. You are doing great!

Question: are you going nuts on cheat day?

  • Arelleth commented Sep 14th 2011:

Hey, I'm happy that you are seeing success too. SCD is amazing.

I'm kinda experimenting with cheat days. I always pig out (I love me some donuts, sugary iced coffee, sugar cookies, chocolate candy, pastries....making myself hungry lol) but I've noticed that I seem less bloated the day after if I eat the bulk of my junk earlier in the day and go to bed feeling satisfied, but not full. The days when I go to bed stuffed to the gills with garbage, I feel fat as hell the next day or two. Since I've only had 4 cheat days, I'm still exploring/tweaking my binge strategy. :D

Congratulations! Great work. : )

Any wisdom from being on the plan so far?

  • Arelleth commented Sep 12th 2011:

Keep it simple...the first couple weeks I tried all kinds of complicated meals and lost a pound or two here and there. Then I switched to various combinations of Lentils, eggs, spinach and turkey burgers and the fat started coming off a lot faster.

Also, the book is the best resource. I've gone back and reread the chapters on Slow Carb at least three times. The closer I follow Tim's recommendations the better it works.

and as a parting thought, Drink TONS of water and make sure you get your 30g of protein at breakfast! ;)

  • ffc904 commented Sep 12th 2011:

Thank you! Have you incorporated supplements or kettlebells yet?

  • Arelleth commented Sep 12th 2011:

I am doing 50-75 swings with a 25lb kettle bell 3 times a week, before breakfast if I remember.

I haven't added supplements. I like to try getting all my nutrition from my food, hence all the spinach. :)

Arelleth, I am blown away!!!! What a remarkable difference, and in just 4 weeks! You must be elated. I'm very happy for you that you have done so well and it's great that you documented it so clearly, too!

Woooohoooo for you!!!

:-D

  • Arelleth commented Sep 13th 2011:

Thank you so much! I wouldn't believe it if I didn't have the pictures for proof. :)

Woohoo! Looks awesome, keep it up!

  • JJJ commented Sep 12th 2011:

do you have a set goal?

  • Arelleth commented Sep 12th 2011:

Thanks very much. I think I need to start smiling in my pictures, this is exciting stuff! :)

Well I reached the short term goal of fitting back into all of my clothes! As for a long term goal, I've been thinking I should make one, so I have something specific to work towards.

  • JJJ commented Sep 12th 2011:

Yes smile!! Although I don't put my head in mine so I don't have to worry about looking like a crackhead because I just rolled out of bed.

And same here about the goal! I think it would help a lot to have a concrete thing to work towards, I just don't know how to decide where to aim or what's right for me.

Wow, thank you for sharing!

I am starting week 3 and have not lost more than a couple of kilos. I do feel a little slimmer but seeing your photos gives me motivation to continue. I am not following EXACTLY how the book says but as you did, I am trying a few things here and there.

Breakfast within 30 minutes is difficult with my little boy but I am trying within an hour. I still use olive oil in my salads, butter with my veggies, cream with my coffee and tea, and 1 spoon of honey with a cup of tea at night. First week I tried a bunch of sausages with my eggs but I don't think I should so I switched to bacon... I also put a tiny bit of shaved parmesan on my eggs so I can eat them every day :( anyway lots of cheating...

Congratulations!!

  • angi465 commented Sep 13th 2011:

Hang in there moca! I'm in week 3 and I'm just starting to see the difference in the weigt. However my clothes really tell me that things are a-changing. I was able to get into a pair of 16s yesterday and my current goal is a 14. I still do the olive oil, butter and cream, and a small amt of parmesan on my salad. I like the Caesar kit with the caesar vinaigrette, sans croutons. I've lost 5 lbs so far this week and my cheat day is Thursday, PLUS I'm over 40 with a kid. So, I'm here to tell you, it will kick in.

  • Arelleth commented Sep 14th 2011:

Hey Moca, thanks for the comment. I noticed that when I followed SCD protocol to the letter, I saw much faster results, than when I was cutting corners or using "restricted amount" foods like cream or mayonnaise. I actually gained a pound the week I added sausage, so I think its great that you switched to bacon. Keep us all updated on how you are doing. We are all here to support you! ;)

  • paulshack commented Sep 14th 2011:

    Ah sausage-so true-so very true!

Wow wow wow!!!! So glad you posted pics! Just looking at the numbers gives no sense of really how much a difference they make. Boy oh boy! You look fantastic! Rock on wit' yo' bad self! Your results are awesome. I'm currently in week 3 and wasn't going to take pics until week 6, but I just may have to take some to compare... Thank you for sharing these!

  • Arelleth commented Sep 14th 2011:

The pictures make a HUGE difference in getting motivated and sticking with it! I take them every week. Its awesome watching yourself shrink before your own eyes. ;) Stay motivated!!

Holy Moley! Arelleth!

You look AWESOME!! Are you wanting to lose anymore or are you happy with what you have now? To me, you look perfect!!

Way to go!!

  • Arelleth commented Sep 14th 2011:

Thanks Akane! I'm kinda trying to decide what my next goal is going to be. I'd love to get some more abdominal definition and tighten up the ol' gluteus maximus. ;)

  • Maria Rider commented Sep 16th 2011:

Arelleth, I am totally with you on that. Have you been doing the Six Minute Abs exercises? Perhaps doing that? I'd love to get some six-pack ab-candy myself! :)

How inspirational! You just did the kettleball swings? No other exercise? I am just starting out and am confused about the exercise and how much it should be done. You've given me hope! ;)

  • Arelleth commented Sep 29th 2011:

Kettlebell swings were the only new exercise I did. I went running with a friend here and there once a week, or once every other week, but I was working-out like that BEFORE I started slow carb. If I am remembering correctly, for fat loss Tim recommends starting out with the slow carb diet, then incorporating in exercises like kettlebell swings.

Wow Arelleth! what a difference! congrats!

I started 2 weeks ago; lost 2 kilo's.Today is my second cheat day!

I am a 55 yr old woman who had children and I read that it takes the longest with us.... 4 - 6 weeks for real weight loss to kick in.

So I am satisfied with my 2 kilo's. I took pictures after 5 days and after 13 days. Don't dare to show them yet.....=)

did you do 60-90 seconds air squads etc. before and after meals on you cheat days? and/or use extra precautions like drinking lemon juice before/during meals?

  • Arelleth commented Dec 20th 2011:

Thanks for the kudos and congrats on your own progress! :) I didn't consistently follow any damage control, just ate slow carbs 6 days a week and had my cheat day.

WOW!!

How amazing and inspirational for me.

I'd love to know how you're doing now.

I had over a 100lbs to lose...I've lost over 20, in a month, but I'm stalled right now

probably due to the addition of the whey protein...cutting it out now.

Thank you for your pics and blog.

I'm so happy you posted these pictures. I am looking for some motivation since I keep starting the diet but falling off after merely a week! (can't get off the cheat day)

Anyway, your body type is just like mine (even sharing the same measurements) so I'm very excited to look like your "after" picture

Again, congrats.

  • Arelleth commented Sep 29th 2011:

Thanks so much! All of this encouragement and support is really amazing and humbling! I look forward to hearing how you progress on slow carbs. Keep us all posted and good luck sticking to it. :)

I saw your before and after pictures and you did great! I don't have the book yet but started the diet today anyway. I don't understand what some of the people mean about eating bacon instead of sausage and I won't have the book for a few days, can you explain it. Thanks Linda

  • Eva Lotte commented Jul 23rd 2013:

Hi Linda! Welcome! Sausages often contain sugar, sometimes unwanted preservatives. Bacon therefore is more "straightforward", easier to find without sugar. But I come from a sausage-eating country and I eat them, just check the ingredients carefully. Often they contain dextrose, f. ex., which is also a sugar. Safest thing are beef-burger-patties, you pretty much can't go wrong there. Good luck!
