Minimize binge day damage with prunes
i discovered that I feel 100% better the day after binge day if I eat 100-200gr prunes (depending on body size) as my last snack on binge day.
Tim suggest using caffeine as a mild laxative, but that doesn't work for me. I hate feeling bloated and sluggish post binge day and prunes have seemed to fix that problem. They eliminate any possible constipation and also reduce the amount of water weight you retain.
Has anyone else experimented with this?

I've NEVER heard of prunes helping things along, though it sounds logical. Hmm, I'll have to try this next Cheat Day. Thanks for the tip!
How much do you end up gaining the day after cheat day? Or do you not bother weighing in? I am just curious if it has an effect on the cheat day gain.

I tried this this week, I'll let you know how well it works. I also made oatmeal my last meal of the night before the prunes so.... We'll see. My free day was Thursday and I didn't gain as much as I did last week. Hopefully it will come off faster this week.
GREAT! I'm back to my pre cheat day weight already! So from here on out my last meal on cheat day will be oatmeal with all the fixins, of course then prunes before bed! Worked wonderfully for me!
How many prunes did you have? Did you have them altogether at once or spread throughout the day? I ended up eating 3 after lunch, and six at the end of my cheat day.
Oh, btw, feeling the effects now.
Maybe by tomorrow morning I'll have expelled the cheat day stuff.

I'm a nurse, you don't scare me. Ha ha! I ate like 6 of them at the end of the day. It was the last thing I had. Remember I also had oatmeal too.
Hmm, I had 6 too....but it seems like my body likes to "hang onto" my food.

Week 3 Akane! This time I ate 12 prunes AND warmed them for 20 seconds in the microwave first. (Mine are refrigerated) All this after my oatmeal. I'll let you know how everything comes out...no pun intended! Ayla, thanks for posting this!
Angi, yeah, let me know how it goes as far as weigh-in AFTER Cheat Day. That's what I am mostly interested in....if you can pretty much get close or eliminate the 2-4 lb gain after Cheat Day and start the week at the weight you were at on the morning of Cheat Day. Thanks for keeping me updated! I'm going to go for the prune juice method..20oz of prune juice here I come!

Gained 1.5 lbs. I can live with that. Still haven't gone so that should do it. Yay! Let me know how the juice goes. Mom used to give it to me all the time as a kid. Have a great day girl!
WOO, well, that 1.5 lbs will probably be gone on your next BM...which is like way less time than if you didn't use prunes. 1.5 lbs is not a lot to lose over a day. I do that already without the prunes help. I got this big bottle of prune juice and will drink at least 20oz of it at the end of Cheat Day today. I'll let you know what happens. I USUALLY gain about 2-4 lbs after Cheat Day(last week was 3.4 lbs which was gone by Wednesday). So, if I can make it to the day after cheat day and be only up like 1 lb or less I'll be a happy camper...even better if I end up being less than I weighed on Cheat Day morning!

Ayla, just drank 2 1/2 cups(20oz) of prune juice just 15 minutes ago. OMG...anyway, I will let you know tomorrow the results of the experiment. Right now, my teeth are floating in prune juice.

Oops, Apparently, I did not eat enough prunes to get the "effect". I'm going to try more next Saturday. I think I wound up maybe getting 6-8 down my gullet and stopped. Also, I ate them really late at night!
My weight gain was the same as last week, but it is coming off sooner.
Next week will be a better guage also with TOM being past and not looming on the horizon.

I just drank 2 1/2 cups of prune juice, Joy. Teeth are floating! O_O
Ended up gaining 3 lbs. Day is not over yet, so I am gonna see if it will at least get the weight off by tomorrow morning, while it isn't "the day after Cheat Day"....the "day after the day after cheat day" would be considered a success.

My gain was the usual this AM after DGW day. However, last week, I got to preDGW weight sooner with probably 50 g prunes, and I think with the 100 grams of prunes that this week will be even quicker to get back to preDGW weight. Why would I think this? Well, the load that I left early this afternoon was quite impressive!

I like to eat the prunes right before bed because they take 6-8 hours to kicks in. If I get to use the bathroom a few times before weighing myself I often don't gain anything.
Really? Prunes are really famous for that their laxative effect. (that's why lots of old folks take em. For regularity) It just never occurred to me to take it on Cheat Day is all.
Oh, and if you don't like prunes, prune juice works well too.
Prunes are a natural laxative! If you mix 1/2 cup apple juice with 1/2 cup prune juice and drink it in the morning, 30 minutes later things are moving right along in the bathroom. I guess since juice is a no-no on SCD I'd say try it the morning of your cheat day (works best in the morning for me).
Oh I'm aware of the natural laxative effect....I was just interested in the fact that you may not retain any of that cheat day water weight one gets after cheat day mostly by just consuming prunes/prune juice. If prunes are all I need to cut down my gain in half or negate it altogether, the more I am not further away from my weigh-in weight on Saturday the better!

Cheat day is today, Ayla!! I got a 7oz container of prunes, but I am wary about eating that many!
Maybe half the container...when should I eat them? At the end of the day?
Or maybe throughout the day? Maybe at mealtimes? Pop about 2?

I eat mine all at once. I'm not sure what happens if you space them but I assume they get a little less effective.

What makes you go to the bathroom is the sorbitol. 100gr of prunes has 15gm of sorbitol while prune juice only has 6gr per 100gr. You'd need 3 times as much prune juice as regular prunes. Depending on your stomach, 10-20 prunes should do the trick
try the juice. solid prunes never worked for me even if I have a dozen in one sitting (I've got one stubborn gut!) It's the mixture of dietary fiber, sorbitol, fluid, and the laxative compound Dihydrophenylsatin that does the trick with prune juice.
Ok, since I suck at the conversion thing. How much prune juice should I drink in like cups? or ounces? Ok, I had 9 prunes last Cheat Day, but I ate 3 earlier in the day and 6 at the end. I will try to eat 10 prunes at the end of the day.

Ok, next morning's results: 3 lb gain (my typical gain) and hubby's was 2.8 lb gain. The prune juice DEFINTELY got things moving pretty much 30 minutes after we drank it. As far as it making the weight gain less than usual the next day. No, it did not work. But, the day is not over yet and if it comes off by tomorrow in its entireity...then, I will deem it a somewhat success in that regard.
Jury is still out on this one. Also, we ate our last meal rather late, at 9:30pm and didn't have the prune juice until 11:15pm.
I am wondering whether TIME would help with the weigh-in and eating earlier as well as getting in the prune juice earlier would affect the next morning's weigh-in. Ayla? What is your typical time schedule with the whole "last cheat meal/snack then prune juice" thing?
I usually stop eating at 6pm and then have the prunes right around that time. That way I get to empty my stomach quite a few hours before bed. Sometimes I even have the prunes, not in juice form, at around 3 . The prunes take longer to kick in, but the way they make you a little bloated makes me a lot less hungry which inadvertedly cuts cheat day in half.
Ohhhhh, I see. Well, I am back to SCD for another 6, rather 5 days now.
I don't think I would be able to stop my Cheat Day that early cause I wake up later on Saturdays and then tend to eat breakfast later/lunch later..dinner later...etc. I'm going to try to take the prunes in sooner...like before 10pm and see if that helps.
