I used to get the bowls with Black Beans, Chicken, Lettuce, Mild Salsa, Fajita Veggies and Guacamole. With water it was $9 every meal.
Most of these ingredients will keep for 3-4 days in the refrigerator. So I went to the store and purchased a package of 6 boneless/skinless chicken breast (it was like 3 and one-half pounds), romaine lettuce, 6 cans of black beans, 3 avocados and 4 bell peppers.
Grilled all the chicken at one time. Cut it up in small 1/2 by 1/2 portions so they are bite size and scaleable. weighed out the chicken in 3.5 oz portions, 1/2 cup of black beans, fresh basil from me own garden, 1/4 tsp of cumin and placed it all in a zip lock baggie.
Now you can eat this as is from the baggies for 9 meals. Heat it up in a microwave for 1 minute, add it to a bowl of one cup of raw fresh spinach or lettuce, and you have breakfast lunch or dinner in a matter of minutes.
32-35 grams of protein
20.5 grams of carbs
4 grams of fat
1 gram of sugar
The numbers are a little higher if you add the avocado and veggies. I use 2 tbs of a Salsa Verde which adds 10 calories and 2 carbs to the meal.
Have little extra time, heat up the bell peppers and onions if you like in a skillet until tender and delicious, cut up an avocado and it's even better. You'll be saving a bit of money at the same time.
It's been a while since I read that blurb in the book but I think Tim mentioned in a Q&A that the point of that section wasn't to say you could eat Chipotle while on Slow Carb, but that eating Chipotle was still an improvement in the average diet. The Chipotle diet also follows the rule of eating the same few meals over and over again.
Remember Jared from Subway? He didn't lose weight because hoagies are so healthy. He lost weight because he ate hoagies in place of 10 big macs every day.
If you want to get the best results, and are following strictly slow carb, don't ask for sour cream or cheese when you go to Chipotle or save it for the cheat day.
Personally, out of convenience, I've been eating Chipotle for my lunch and dinner Mon-Fri for the last three weeks. I get both at the same time and just save one for later. Here's what I've gotten:
That's it. In the last 10 days, I've lost around 8 lbs with light exercise(kettlebell swings, myotactic cruches, and very light treadmill work). This combined with a breakfast of 1 whole egg, 3 egg whites, grilled asparagus, and edamame have gotten me awesome results in the last couple weeks. Good luck!
Famulan mentioned it in his(her?) comment and Tim actually mentions this in the book; it relates to lactose content. Basically sour cream, cream and cottage cheese are either lactose free or have really low amounts of it. If you keep your quantities low, you should be fine. The reality is everyone's body is going to process things differently. Try adding a little bit and see if it affects you. If it does, reduce or eliminate it. If it doesn't, congrats! You can add the sour cream and cheese to that burrito bowl! Good luck.
you can do chipotle w/o the cheese and sour cream. however, sour cream may be ok if it is lactose free. any lactose free dairy is fine (cottage cheese and heavy cream for example).
if you take your measurements for a few weeks on the diet without eating cheese, then you can add the cheese and see if it affects you negatively.
sour cream and cheese have low to no impact on blood sugar - sour cream has a GI of 1 (very low) and 4g fat in 1 ounce - 2g saturated - but is high in Vitamin D and calcium both essential for fat burning.
Keep in mind atkins and other high fat high proten low carb diets are also very successful at rapid weight loss - and SCD is all about blood sugar impact.
I occasionally buy a small container of sour cream, and use it sparingly on my own homemade chipolte chili bowls, like a teaspoon kinda smeared around at the top. It is just enough mixed with the hot sauce to give it a creamy touch. Just enough for a special taste, don't overdo it! And it's not all the times, just a every couple weeks. Or just save it for cheat day and use the whole container at once....
I have chipotle (well, a UK equivalent) most lunchtimes as a burrito bowl so no wrap.
I go for chicken/steak,
peppers and onions
mild and medium salsa
no sour cream
I found that dairy was hindering fat loss, so I cut it out. I don't see it as a big loss, as I wasn't a massive dairy person to begin with. The above is delicious though and makes lunch so much easier for me. Always feel full afterwards for a good long time.
In the last 2 months, I have eaten Chipotle for lunch at least 3 times a week, and I have lost 25 pounds. I order a salad bowl, which basically replaces the rice with a bed of lettuce. I then get one scoop of each type of beans, fajita veggies, chicken, salsa, guacamole, and then I usually ask them to pile some more lettuce on top if they can fit it, and they usually take that as a challenge. The best thing about going there is that the meat is all hormone and antibiotic free, and once you have been going there long enough to know most of the staff on a first name basis they stop asking if you know that the guacamole is extra!
