52

100 lbs in 208 days.

This is more of a Before/During than Before/After cuz I'm nowhere near finished!

Starting Weight 12/15/10 - 429

Todays Weight 07/10/11 - 328.8

I have 4HB to thank for it. Lots of kettlebells, walking and intermittent fasting.

I feel *fantastic* and can't wait to see where I end up by the end of the year.

Update 8/19/2011, Day 248: Thank you everyone for the support and kind words! After losing the 100 lbs I lost control a few days, I was working so hard and I needed to let off some steam. Weight went up and took me a couple weeks to get back to where I was. Past that now, at 113 lbs lost. You can track my progress on my blog.

WOW! That's awesome man! Congratulations!

I'm curious if you could share how your first few weeks/months went and what you might have originally done wrong and how you corrected course (if anything, of course).

I always see success stories, which are fantastic, but as someone who's constantly adjusting how I incorporate the 4HB to get the desired results -- be it from lack of understanding what I'm doing wrong or whatever -- I always appreciate hearing what others did when they started and how they ultimately got it under control.

If you could share that with us, that would be fantastic!

And again, way to go! Keep up the great work!

First few weeks were great, the weight-loss was pretty much diet alone. I went on PAGG, picked up a 25 lb bell & Enter the Kettlebell on DVD and started working with that. I now use a 40 lb and intend to move up to 54 soon.

    Stuff I've learned:

Tracking weight's important. At times it gets stressful when it stalls or goes up but it really helps me learn what I'm doing right or wrong.

When you work out and get really sore you retain more water, so if the scale jumps the next day it's okay!

Find an RKC to help you with your kettlebell form. I've learned a lot from my instructor, Gary.

Track and share your results with others! The friends I've made on DailyBurn help keep me motivated.

If you cheat, don't beat yourself up.

    Set Goals.

    Damage Control.

    WATER!

Congratulations that's awesome! Can I hear more about intermittent fasting?

  • MKrick commented Jul 12th 2011:

Thanks pdxhollym, I've sent a tweet out :)

Truthis.beauty, There's a good chapter in the book on IF in the Living Forever section. Basically, you eat your days worth of calories within a short timespan and fast til the next day.

Congratulations! how did you do your intermittent fasting?

  • MKrick commented Jul 12th 2011:

It varies, I'm always switching it up. Sometimes I'm doing 18/6, this last week when I was trying to reach my goal I went with 22/2. I wake up, get my 30g protein (chicken or shake), exercise, large breakfast, then that would be it until the next morning.

WOW! 100 pounds lost is truly amazing! Keep up the great work! And good info on seeking a legit kettlebell instructor. :)

Out of curiosity, how many times per week do you exercise?

  • MKrick commented Aug 16th 2011:

For the first 6 months I just did kettlebells 2-3 times a week. 2 months ago I started walking a lot, I try to walk 5k every morning now.

congrats man! that's really inspiring. i have a question about your post. what do mean that you do "intermittent fasting?" i would just like to know why and what is the benefit? i don't remember seeing anything about fasting in the book, so i'm really curious about it.

also, what is your kettlebell routine? how often do you do it, and how many reps/set?

i appreciate your time to answer my questions.

good luck and keep up the great work buddy.

  • MKrick commented Mar 3rd 2013:

Thanks! I'm down to 260 now after switching to a ketogenic diet.

Intermittent Fasting is covered in the "Living Forever" chapter of the book. The main benefit is that the body spends more time burning fat than being satiated and burning food you're eating ever few hours.

Sadly, I don't use the kettlebell as often as I should anymore. When I do, I do 100 swings. 10 swings at the top of the minute for 10 minutes. I also do KB squats and military presses. When I can do 100 swings easily with this bell (24 kilo), I'll either up the # of minutes to 15 or do 15 swings per minute so that I'm doing 150 total swings. Then onto 200. After that I'll probably look into getting a 32 kilo bell.

Good luck to you too, Mike. Put in the work and change will happen.
