4th week of SCD and I have gained weight, why?

I am in my fourth week of the slow card diet and have gained weight. I am not convinced it is muscle as my jeans are too tight so I can only assume it's volume, ie fat. My body fat percentage is the same.

I am really not sure what I am doing wrong? Perhaps I am cooking with too much oil... is that a factor?

The first week of the diet I drank wine in the evenings but have now omitted that completely as I saw no change and thought perhaps that was the cause. So I have been 3 weeks without wine except for cheat days.

I do eat a lot. Not sure if maybe I am eating too much protein and fat....? Please, any help would be appreciated. I am starting to feel a little panicky that I have invested so much time and effort with no results.

I guess it would be about 4-5 slices of back bacon :) Haven't checked for sugar but will next time I buy!

Hey Persimmon... try not to worry too much 8) - perhaps share a typical day of your diet so we can look and provide feedback/suggestions. also how much weight have you lost since you started?

Hi Chrome, Thanks for your answer. I think I MAY finally be seeing some results. My jeans are still tighter than when I started but for the first time yesterday seemed to 'give' a bit. I don't have a lot of weight to lose... approximately 5-7kg is my goal.

Maybe when there isn't too much weight to lose it takes longer to adjust? My body fat percentage is at 29% and I would love to come down to 18%. I can post pictures of my progress but it's difficult to see any change in the photo's.

As for what I eat on an average day :

Breakfast 5:30am : 2 scrambled egg, 1 cup cooked spinach, 1/2 cup bacon diced.

Mid Morning 10am : can of tuna ( approx 125 g ) mixed with flax seed oil and red wine vinegar

2pm : diced salad : cucumber, 1 tomato, green pepper, tuna flax oil, vinegar salt pepper ( about 400g I guess )

    5pm : 10 almonds, 100g biltong ( biltong is a south african cured meat - contains no sugar )

dinner 7pm : 2 pork chops fried, cauliflower mash with garlic and butter beans.

Wow, that's embarrassing writing how much I eat! But that's a pretty lavish day. Yesterday I was demotivated so I had a can of tuna for breakfast, a can of tuna for lunch, 10 almonds as a snack and cauliflower mash and a lamb chop for supper.

If you can see any error in my ways... please point it out to me... otherwise, I am just going to keep on trucking! Maybe I will post a picture up here to keep myself motivated. I have also just started photographing my meals.

I think your food looks good, and actually sounds pretty appetizing to boot! It doesn't look like too much to me. I am stalling, too. I actually feel like I don't eat anything much, yet continue to gain or lose nothing (keeping track of weight, BF, inches too.) I want to lose 20-30lbs. I am still nursing my baby, so I think that may not be helping either. I keep thinking of the lady in the book that lost 100lbs. If she can do THAT, I can do my goal!

Hey @srvincentinteriors I think you are right about not eating too little - it's a tricky thing - we're so brainwashed into thinking...." well maybe if I just eat a little less?? "

Thanks @Joiedevivre - I think there must be so many contributing factors. The fact is that we really know so little about our bodies. I would love to do all the blood tests... I find it fascinating. I was reading online about all the tests that Tim Ferriss recommends we do in his book and it really is interesting to consider what all those organs represent and how much their state really can affect us! If I am still struggling with BF loss I am going to push myself even more to get those tests done.

I'm in my 5th week and although I had good results at the beginning, I actually stalled on my 3rd week.. For inatance i was up a pound from my 3rd week cheat day until the end of my 4th week, where i was finally at my losest. Fyi i started at 130.4 and 21% BF on May 16. I'm like you, only have 8-10 pounds to lose. This last Tuesday (June 14), I was at 125.4 and 20.3% BF. After reading your post, I don't think you are eating too much. I eat about the same amount of protein and fat as you do, but in addition I try to eat 1/3-1/2 cup of beans with 3 of my meals. Dont cut down your food intake. Looking back, thats one of the mistakes i might have made in my 3rd week- i went from 4 meals to 3. Dont get stuck in the old mindset that less food= more weight loss. Also after reading this blog, I think it's harder for peeps that only need to lose a small amount of weight or just BF. Hang in there. You can do it! Your body will adjust and you will see results!! Keep us posted....

Hiya!!

Just wondering how many slices of bacon is diced into your half cup? Just formulating a possible answer but having that info would help a bit too:)

Take care!

I am going to post pictures at the end of this week, as well as any change to my BF - I think there may be a difference but not huge in how I a looking. I am due to measure my body fat on friday so I will take "after pictures" the same morning. See my comment under my question re the amount of Bacon.

PS - Total newbie... I don't seem to have the facility to answer as a separate comment - only to post comments under other comments - is that maybe a google chrome issue?
