My 2-Year Journey on the Four-Hour Body

Back in March 2009, I was surfing the Internet, looking for new ideas on how to loose weight and I stumbled upon Tim Ferris' blog. As they say, the rest is history...

Fall 2007:

December 2010 at 260 Pounds:

Here is a pic that I took last weekend:

Right now, I am about 5 pounds or so from losing 100 pounds in 2 years. I plan on losing about 65-70 more. I'm only 5'11, and I've never been under 200 lbs before as an adult, and I hope to reach that goal before my 30th birthday in October.

It's definitely been one heck of a time and I've had plenty of trial and error, but I'm pleased with how I've done so far! This year, I have learned from the mistakes I was making last year, so I'm a lot happier with my progress so far than I was in 2010.

I look at your photos and read your story and can not stop thinking; what you did for yourself not only changed your body, but your spirit too.

Now, you are sharing it, and by doing that bringing motivation and inspiration to many. You went from guy that was just trying to get his life back on the track to somebody that people refer to when they say - "I want to do what he did, it is possible".

What I know is that you will not stop here and can not wait to see for what you will go for next. With strength of spirit you developed by doing this, I am sure sky is the limit .

Strength and honor.

Nice Leon! Please tell us top 3 mistakes and top 3 things that worked.

  • shrinkingleon commented Mar 15th 2011:
Top 3 mistakes: 1) Not eating enough 2) Eating trigger foods or things I thought were right, but weren't (cheese, brown rice, etc) 3) Overtraining my body when I exercised (still working on this)
  • shrinkingleon commented Mar 15th 2011:
Things that work: 1) Cutting down on sodium and finding great herbs and spices 2) Sticking to the basics 3) Staying conisistent

shrinkingleon, wow, thank you. you make it sound like it is not that hard. it looks like we should not cut calories back, right?

Congratulations! That's really excellent. I think a lot of us would find it super helpful to hear what your mistakes and successful strategies were/are. Don't be shy! Congrats once again.

  • shrinkingleon commented Mar 13th 2011:
Learning not to overtrain my body and learning how to keep my diet clean have been major factors. Avoiding the trigger foods - I used to like snacking on almonds - has helped too. A big key is cutting down sodium as well.

Heya, Leon!!

I was just wondering how you are doing now on your journey? Since it is almost 3 years now since you started on it!!! Interested in new pics and an update! :)

  • shrinkingleon commented Jan 27th 2012:

Hi Akane, I am about to attach a recent photo that I took today. I am down to a size Large and my size 40 jeans are beginning to feel loose on me. Considering that I was wearing almost a size 50 waist three years ago when I started, I know I've come a loooooong way, even though my belly is bigger than I'd like it to be!

  • Maria Rider commented Jan 27th 2012:

WOO!!! (not on your belly) But, YAY on shrinking even more! :) I'm almost done with my journey that is gonna probably take me over a year to complete. :) At least the weight losing part....:)

Details Dude, details please. Tell us 2 month-ers all about the mistakes and your solutions. Me, I finally busted thru 20lbs lost after two months. Was stuck at 18lbs lost for weeks.

  • shrinkingleon commented Jan 28th 2012:

Be very careful with "trigger foods," and I found out I can't overdo it on cheat days. I usually just do a cheat meal every other week nowadays, but sometimes I do indulge a bit more

That's wonderful!

I hope my question isn't too personal, since I have quite a bit of weight to lose as well - but do you have any skin left over issues, or have things remained more or less okay on that front?

  • shrinkingleon commented Mar 13th 2011:
I haven't had loose skin problems - yet. I still have a lot of weight to lose, but i'm pretty sure that'll be an issue down the road...

This is amazing! I use these words rarely. Inspirational.

I've popped over 300 once or twice but hover around 260. I haven't been under 200 as an adult also. Good luck on getting down to 200!

Hey! I'm new here and just read about your incredible progress. I'm glad to actually see the progress because it makes me feel like it's really manageable.

Since it is end of July 2012 I was wondering how you are doing and if you are still sticking to the diet. Also I was wondering if you (will) stick to the diet now that/once you achieve your goal.

I am still at the very beginning of 4HB and I still/already have difficulties imagining eating fruits only on binge days for the rest of life :o( and was wondering if you have any thoughts on that.

  • shrinkingleon commented Aug 20th 2012:

Hi people, thank you for the well wishes and comments. I still have my good days and bad days. I was laid off a few months ago and have been dealing with the depression and stress that comes with having to look for employment and I admit I have been going out a lot more and drinking a lot more than I used to. In spite of that, I've kept to the same range weight-wise, but I'm really doing what I can to control my appetite and cravings so I don't gain a ton of weight.

Here are some recent photos of me
