Oatmeal in Chili!?!? WTF?
I ran by the grocery store to grab some chili for lunch. I thought that it would be a quick, less expensive, slow carb alternative. Reading through the ingredients, both Hormel and Wolf chili have "oatmeal" or "rolled oats" fairly high in the ingredients list.
I went over and bought some of the store's "gourmet" chili - no oats. Just crazy the stuff that turns up when you actually look for it.

it sucks how much crap is in those tasty canned meals, you also have a watch out for salt! most cans of beans have 1/2 the salt you need for the whole day! and soups/chili are worse!
cheers

Any food you don't prepare yourself is going to have lots of fillers in it, so you should always check the ingredients carefully.

That's crazy! I would have never thought that. I guess that's why it's always good to check the labels.

It's crazy what's in our food! I've been reading labels on EVERYTHING lately. I've found sugar in canned beans, frozen veggies, mayonnaise, canned soups etc... things I never would have thought had sugar in them.

I did the same thing. Thought Chili would be a good low carb alternative... After eating a few bites, I noticed it tasted sweet. Checked the ingredients and sure enough... high fructose corn syrup. Same thing happened with stewed tomotoes. Now I check EVERYTHING and prefer to just make it myself, that way I know what is in it!
