Your holiday's plan

Hi all,

The holiday's are on us what is your plan for beating them.

mine is

Thanksgiving - Move cheat day to Thursday, weight and tape in the AM.

Christmas - We are going to my family's for a week (22-28 Dec) first time taking my wife there to meet the clan(it has been 10 years I figure I am keeping her might want to show her off)

and this is a big even for the clan, so we are planing to forgo strict following for that week, and hitting it hard on the return.

Well that is it share your plan.

I've moved my cheat day for that week to Thursday too so I can enjoy thanksgiving, but to give myself an extra day in between, I've moved up my cheat day for this week to friday instead of saturday. This way I get 6 days before the holiday. After that i'm going a full 9 days until saturday the week after to reset my saturday cheat days. This changes for christmas. I'm hispanic so we celebrate the night before, so I moved my cheat day back a few days until christmas eve. My birthday is on the 26th but I'll keep it slow carb until the next saturday which is when I will celebrate my birthday.

Yay for not falling into the "Oh it's the holidays so I will just 'put slow carbing on hold and get back to it' rationalization." Not that that is wrong, but I believe(and I may be the only anal-retentive one ;)) that if you are truly adopting slow carbing as a lifestyle. You do it as best as you can MOST of the time....not "take a week off and eat whatever". If you have too many "social eating events" choose meals/foods as CLOSE to slow carb as possible...if you are unsure of the ingredients...try to stick to grilled/baked/roasted stuff and shy from stuff with sauces in it. LIVE the lifestyle ALL THE TIME, not just "when it is convenient" :) Right?

Also if you KNOW there will be no SCD foods at an event and it'll be full of non-SCD foods...then make THAT day your cheat day. Create better habits. Adopt the mentality of healthier eating during the holidays. :)

Akane, yup, sticking with this even in the holidays. I know this is the biggest test for me. Just this sunday I went to a football game, all my friends were telling me to just give it up for one day but i refused. I took tuna packets and water bottles and thats what I ate and stuck with it, its my lifestyle now. Same thing for the holidays coming up, all prepared and planned ahead, even if it means not eating my favorite things for my birthday. My success so far is my biggest motivator to keep going and I wont fail

You go, Juan! Flex that willpower. It really isn't hard to resist especially if you stay on the slow carb lifestyle. Plus, why when you have the cheat day and you can eat what you want "guilt-free" People are telling me to go for it already because I am at my goal, but I'm hesitant to relax for fear of going back to that 247 lbs O_o I know I won't....but I think it's good to have a "little" fear so you don't get too complacent and relaxed. Being healthy is a 24/7 thing, not just "oh I'm done losing weight now I can go back to eating how I did" thing is, even if I WANTED to...I'd not really want to because having several cheat days in a row would make me "useless" as I would be so lethargic and stuff the entire day/week. :)

I'm doing the same for Thanksgiving. I'm also trying to prepare my stock answer to the "why don't you just eat a bit of this?"

  • Juan Pinillos commented Nov 13th 2012:

yup, also the "Oh if you only eat a bit it doesn't hurt" which is the follow up

Yea I hate that one, my mom keeps saying that when I go see her. Then I remind her that before I started this, I steadily gained like 80-90 pounds over the course of 5 years with that mentality.

exactly, and thats what this lifestyle teaches us all, those little bites do make a difference, do change things. Avoiding all those little things is what gives us our success

My Italian mother is starting to save me things for Saturday!

I'm still debating whether I should just have my cheat day this Saturday, and stick with the diet during thanksgiving and not change anything. I guess when Saturday comes around, if I'm not in any urgency to cheat, I will just skip my cheat day on Saturday and enjoy Thanksgiving...I haven't given much thought about Christmas yet...I need to survive thanksgiving first. 😉

You can do it, @MaryC!! Hubby and I are cheating on Saturday(I'm foregoing Friday Cheat day even though we are going to the Chicago Fine CHocolate Show and YES I will not sample the chocolate. :) THOUGH I am saving it in ziploc baggies for Saturday!!) It'll mean only 4 full SCD days before Thanksgiving...but for me, that's ok...as is with Hubby. After Thanksgiving we'll be doing an extra long SCD week(8 days) to reset it to Saturday, 12/1 so, thus any damage from a 4-day SCD week will be negated. :) As far as Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, gonna plan cheat days on those days only...otherwise it is SCD days all around. :) Good Luck!! You CAN lose weight over the holidays. I lost 14 lbs last year from Thanksgiving to New Years Eve shifting my cheat days around
