what do you eat when you are getting sick?

I'm fighting off/coming down with a cold and was wondering what(SCD food) folks eat when they are getting sick? I tend to eat pretty lousy (SCD wise) when I get sick- Rice porridge, saltine crackers with Chicken broth,Pho, ritz crackers with cheese spread, lil smokies (cocktail dogs) and the like.

I have decided not to do that this time and didn't even bother eating today until dinner and then had Chicken and beans at the Mexican restaurant across the street- namely because I was a little hungry and my wife wanted to eat.

Any suggestions as to SCD friendly comfort food? I'm contemplating Pho without the noodles, or just some rotisserie chicken but I'm looking for more options and hopefully something will excite me.

I just now finished eating a big bowl of home made chicken soup. A couple days ago, I simmered in a big pot of water: 4 chicken thighs (with bone and skin, to be removed later), 3 diced carrots, 4 diced stalks of celery, 1 diced yellow onion, 1 minced clove garlic and salt and pepper. Don't let it boil or it will get foamy and cloudy. Just cook gently until the chicken's falling off the bone. When it was done, I added some cooked kale to it. If you wanted to add legumes, you could add some canned white beans or cooked lentils.

I often have this for breakfast and it keeps me filled up for 6 - 7 hours! I especially like this when the weather's cool.

Trader Joe's has a yummy black bean soup you can get that doesn't have any added ingredients we aren't allowed to consume. I also make a chicken, white bean and kale soup with a low sodium chicken broth base. Super easy: saute onlions and garlic until soft, add the chicken and let cook a little then add a whole box of low sodium broth, add herbs and whatever seasonings you like, once the chicken has cooked and the broth developed more flavor add a bag of chopped kale and a can of white beans then bring everything to a boil and simmer until kale is cooked.

Oh shoot didn't realize the post above had pretty much the exact same soup hahaha!!! Her way is better, cooking the chicken with the bone in. It gives the broth a much better flavor, my way is just the lazy way haha.

Why would you feel like getting a flu? I feel like not getting one :) JK. I might try that next time as I'm getting over a cold right now.

I meant that whenever I feel the early symptoms of a flu. I do not enjoy being ill :).

Wish I had seen this earlier - I've been sick all week and have pretty much given up anything 4HB friendly since Saturday. Of course now I'm wondering if my energy level are so low and my recovery feels like it's taking forever because I've probably only had 60g of protein since then....
