Limiting Legumes

HI! I have been doing the SCD for approximately 11 weeks and have lost about 12 lbs. I am happy about the diet and not having cravings etc... but I have stalled as far as losing weight for the past 3 weeks. I have been eating lentils 3 times per day (except cheat day). I don't measure them but I am pretty sure I am over a cup. Are we supposed to be limiting how much legumes we are eating? I love this diet, but I am getting frustrated at the recent lack of weight loss!!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, Sheri!

Are you having over a cup EACH meal or total? If it is total, then 1 cup of lentils per day is PERFECT! If it is 1 cup PER MEAL, then YEAH, you gotta cut back on legumes a bit. Try to keep it to about 1 cup per day split between breakfast and lunch. You can omit legumes at dinner to speed up weight loss. :)

Good Luck!

Thanks guys!! I just started to omit lentils at dinner and have seen some loss. I am also trying to cut out the stevia. Hopefully that helps!

I just cooked some lentils today for the first time, i've been eating just the black beans with my meals. I checked my bag and: 1/4 cup has 2 grams of SUGAR! (i didn't read this when i bought it) and 10 grams of protein. For each meal you should at least have 20 grams of protein, and for breakfast try and get 30 grams of protein (i'm sure you know this already if you've been on it for 11 weeks! so if i were you, i'd cut back or off the lentils and go with black beans, in 1 cup of black beans there are 33 grams of protein and just looked at a new bag i bought today at the store and they have 1 gram of sugar per 1/4 Cup (7 grams of protein per 1/4 cup). The 33 grams mentioned was in a book i have. So, maybe you can alternate between lentils and beans for your meals.

I don't eat any beans or lentils for breakfast as i'm getting enough protein with the eggs and turkey bacon i eat. I'm not saying that's right just what i'm doing now.

I've been on the diet not quite a month i started 8/9/2012 and i've lost 10 pounds as of yesterday. Are you keeping a food diary? if not you might start writing down what you eat and see if you can find the culprit on why you aren't losing more. I stalled for 6 days and had to cut out my peanut butter snack i was having w/celery, also salsa and stevia sweetener, the next day i started losing again. Just see if you can tweak what you are eating and hopefully get back to burning that fat!!

I eat about 1/2 cup of lentils for breakfast, typically. But I also have a few eggs, maybe some bacon. If you find that cutting the lentils is not curbing your appetite, up the fat and protein. My diet is 50% fat, 35% protein and 15% carbs.

My girlfriend is a vegetarian so her meals are usually much more heavy on the lentils and beans. I'm honestly not sure how much she's losing as she refuses to get on a scale, which is probably a good thing. We do track her inches and she's lost a lot, especially around her stomach. BTW what does your cheat day look like? I've found that I get better results the worse I cheat, but that could just be me...
