Re: Member intro: Your body is your temple.

Great story welcome to the community. Yes you can drink cold water I do every morning but it's the shivering from the ice bath that actually causes your body to burn fat. So next time you're outside without a jacket by accident and start to shiver think of it as one less trip to the gym!

Re: Roasting Vegetables

I don't know about vegetables but it definitely applies to beans--the longer you cook them the higher the glycemic index.

Check out our superstar member Akane's journey http//4hourpeople.com/question/7805/not-exactly-a-true-beforeafter... She lost an astonishing 100 pounds since last May and is a true testament to what we as humans are capable of! She has been following the slow carb diet religiously and I belie...

Re: Member intro: can

Hmm I've done both P90X and 4 Hour Body workout routines and it really depends on how much time you have. The P90X routines are really intense at first but get easier as time goes on and the 4 Hour Body routines don't take up much time at all but you may not burn as many calories...As long as...

Re: My (Hopefully) SCD Breakfast Shake

Here's my post-workout shake recipe http//4hourpeople.com/activity/569/post-workout-shake It uses whey instead since it's after a workout but I usually have casein for breakfast. It also has stevia but just skip it if you can. If you don't have vanilla protein powder I like to add a little...

Re: 30-day Six Pack Sprint

1

It is a sprint but no you don't go every day to the gym--there are days off from exercising every few days Day 3 and Day 7 are rest days for example. It is designed to be pretty high intensity though so it helps to be in reasonably good shape before you start to prevent shin splints.

Re: What to use as a thickener?

2

As far as I know guar gum and xanthan gum are fiber-based thickeners rather than starches so the carbs they contain are from fiber. This is what is used in many protein shakes as thickeners and you only need a microscopic amount for it to work. You can buy it at Whole Foods or online at Bob's ...

Works for me. Only unapproved member posts go into an approval queue. It is up to other members to decide whether to approve them or not. In your case your questions should post right away. Let us know if this is still the case.

Re: Member intro: Newb.

Hi and welcome! They say slow and steady wins the race--the more extreme you go the harder you'll yo-yo. So just relax and take it day by day. The slow carb diet is very conducive to a nice slow burn. And you can add in some light exercises when you're ready. Once I reached my goal I vowed ...

Re: Confused about cheat day

1

Cheat day is a temporary suspension of all the rules for just one day every week so dairy pizza etc are allowed. You can still eat a gluten-free cheat day if that's what you prefer the only objective of cheat day is to raise your leptin levels so your metabolism doesn't slow down. Eating car...

Re: Plateau - after 11 days

7

The reason why everyone plateaus after the first 10 days is because cutting out simple carbs reduces water retention so you shed a lot of water weight in the beginning. The heavier you are the more dramatic the weight loss. That's why it's so important to begin by measuring in inches/body fat ...

Re: Back to college, back to starting weight

Remember it's better to eat tiny amounts of 'fillers' than outright cheat. Sure there maybe a gram or two of cornstarch in the chili or some cheese in your eggs but trust me that's much much healthier than eating protein bars all day. They are absolutely loaded with sugars/carbs/artificial e...

Re: Can I have Biltong?

I'm not familiar with biltong but most meats are fine as long as they don't contain sugar starch or other fillers/artificial stuff. Obviously fresh grass-fed meat is best but you won't be able to have that 24/7.

Re: Hi, I'm AndrewHess77

Welcome Andrew I agree that yo-yo dieting is a common pitfall of so many diets but the SCD is much less extreme so I think you'll find it much easier to stick with than say a liquid diet or very low carb diet. It seems like it's just as important to have a maintenance plan after you reach you...
