I go to them when I need a "filler" food... ya know, something to plump up a meal and make it more hearty while still being "paleo/slow carb". But I have a sneaking suspicion that if I was to cut beans out (i.e my beloved kidney and black beans, etc), I would be losing fat faster. Could they be the tipping point to me losing...

TIP/Challenge –Prepare ALL your meals in advance! Here is a tip (could maybe be a challenge) for anyone on SCD, but especially for those who struggle to find the time to prepare their meals. In particular for those who struggle to get their 30g within 30min of waking or for those doing the last mile (where I think advanc...

Water retention can be a major problem for some when on SCD. With our cheat days, we can retain a LOT of water weight as our glycogen levels are replenished- each gram of carbohydrate holds onto 4 grams of water and each gram of salt can hold onto a pound of water. So it's no wonder that we end up looking and feeling bloat...

I stumbled across a great little clinical study on almonds that suggests that eating almonds together with your meals reduces the severity of your post-meal insulin/blood sugar spikes, and thus help prevent fat gain. Since the whole point of the slow carb diet is to prevent insulin spikes, according to these findings, eating...

I’ve been on the Last Mile for the couple of weeks to see if I could get from 16.4% to 15%BF. I gave myself a deadline of 3 weeks to do it because I know from past experience that I’m not very good on low carb diets. Luckily it took half the time I expected when I reached 15.2% BF. I’m calling it a success!!! To celeb...

I'm wondering if members' names could be tagged with something that shows how long we've been part of this site, or how long we've been doing SCD (or The Last Mile, Occam's, etc.) I see a lot of newbies answering questions recently, and while I definitely love their enthusiasm and willingness to help, I wonder if it's a l...

I've been intermittent fasting for about 4 days now, on a 21/3 schedule (fasting 21 hours, eating 3). I feel like skipping breakfast is bad! I can't find much information on IF, and I was wondering if anyone has experimented with IF and if they have gotten better results with it than slow carb. I feel loyal to slow carb beca...

So, after reading 4HB, there seems to be this consistent theme of fewer, smaller high-protein meals helping boost your metabolism. Not only is this a part of the last mile protocol, but it is also recommended to start eating a high-protein breakfast if you are accustomed to skipping it. However, lately, I've been reading so...

I'm doing great on the SCD but feel like I may be cheating myself on cheat days- so what are peoples thoughts? what is the physical requirement/guideline for cheat days? is it strictly a calorie spike? loading up on simple carbs and sugars? Hi guys, this has been a revelation for me in my food making. I'm currently on the Last Mile and for eating at work I found out soups to be very nice and handy. What I do is: - prepare everything "dry" at home (fry the meat, boil vegetables, slice up fresh vegetables, mix everything together and spice it up) and take it i...
