I go to them when I need a "filler" food... ya know something to plump up a meal and make it more hearty while still being "paleo/slow carb". Water retention can be a major problem for some when on SCD. With our cheat days we can retain a LOT of water weight as our glycogen levels are replenished- each gram of carbohydrate holds onto 4 grams of water and each gram of salt can hold onto a pound of water. So it's no wonder that we end up looking and feeling bloat...

when i started the SCD 5 days ago I weighed 129 pounds know I weigh 126.4 pounds which is 2.6 pounds of weight loss per 5 days. I'm female 5"3 inches. is this normal or should i be pulling bigger numbers?

I stumbled across a great little clinical study on almonds that suggests that eating almonds together with your meals reduces the severity of your post-meal insulin/blood sugar spikes and thus help prevent fat gain. Since the whole point of the slow carb diet is to prevent insulin spikes according to these findings eating...
